Another Therapist With a Blog

(a re-post from my old blog)

I know, I know. I am likely the one millionth therapist with a blog so it is okay to be skeptical of how this may be different so I hope to make this worth it for you. Like many other therapists, I am in the mental health field because I am passionate about mental health and wellness. It’s important for therapist to use their platforms to promote wellness and decrease the mental health stigma. This may be an unpopular therapist opinion but I also kind of love the idea that there are so many mental health blogs and information on the internet because mental health is not a one size fits all topic.

Different people with different experiences and different perspectives are going to have different insights on mental health and wellness. Which is great! This way you get to choose what works and doesn’t work for you. So, I am grateful to get to add a unique, perspective on mental health along this journey.

As I have ventured into the private practice world of therapy, I have the opportunity to have more time to promote mental health wellness in ways beyond therapy. Trust me, I am a firm believer in therapy and believe that most people could benefit from therapy but I understand that is not realistic for everyone so online sources such as social media, blogs, podcasts, etc are like the toppings on the sundae.

I also believe mental health resources should be accessible to all. Now, a blog is not the same as therapy and shouldn’t be a replacement if that is what you are needing, but it can be a resource. It can give you ideas to ponder about, to reflect on, and possibly even bring up in your own therapy to dig deeper in. One of my favorite analogies to use is an iceberg. This blog can be the top of the iceberg that you see from the boat but it is with personal reflection and/or therapy where you can start exploring the iceberg’s depth below the surface.

So why should you read this therapist’s blog? I will try to be as honest about things as I can. If I hope to get authenticity from my clients, I try to be my authentic self as well. As stated earlier, I will add a different perspective based on my own experiences, research, training, and beliefs. Also, I try to put things in digestible ways and try to connect with folks, even through a screen.

Thank you for checking out this short, first entry as I take on this opportunity. I hope you will check back for further posts! Take care of yourself today, please!
