What is EMDR?
EMDR is a therapy that helps people process old experiences that are showing up in present day patterns without having to talk in depth about it.
EMDR uses methods to have your brain do most of the processing which means less talking, less flashbacks, and quicker results. Together, we find the method that works best for you. Some people use eye movements while others prefer sounds or tapping. This technique helps your brain get memories unstuck!
I often use the metaphor of a filing cabinet. Your brain loves to organize things. Sometimes it files things in unhelpful places or it gets really stressed when trying to file and frogets where it put it or to put it somewhere and it can pile up on the desk. EMDR helps your brain file the experiences in a more helpful place. It takes the helpful information that it needs and can move on from the unhelpful information.
Since the brain is doing the work, therapy sessions don’t involve as much talking about the details, feeling as if those past moments are happening again, or needing as much time to build safety with the therapist.
Many people who do weekly sessions of EMDR say they notice positive changes after just 3 sessions! For the folks who do intensives (4 hours in 1 day) say they are able to process several impactful memories that would have taken them months in therapy!

Does it feel like you keep playing out the same cycles and patterns no matter what you try?
Do you feel like past memories and experiences feel as if they are happening again?
Are you stuck and confused why you do the things you do?
EMDR has been helpful in helping people with trauma, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, hopelessness, and people-pleasing. (and so much more)
It can be a powerful tool for you to create the deep change that is going to help you live the life you want.
EMDR therapy is a semi-structured therapy that uses the brain’s natural processing to identify and move forward from old experiences.
It is a way to get to the root of the issues and to truly make deep lasting change.
How can EMDR help?
You have the power to change your patterns, let’s start this journey together.
What is an EMDR intensive?
An intensive is a longer therapy session. Normal therapy sessions range from 45-60 minutes. If you are working on trauma or significant stuck points, that may not feel like enough time to make big significant process. Or it feels like you are just slowly chipping away at things week after week.
Because of the rapid healing that can occur in EMDR, many people benefit from having longer sessions less frequently! Imagine not having to attend counseling every week, feeling defeated or stuck. Instead, you can make progress after a couple of hours and feel more motivated and like you’re making a difference in your patterns.
90 Minute Sessions
These are great for folks who enjoy the weekly therapy structure but don’t want to feel rushed each week. This time allows for brief check ins in the beginning of each session with plenty of time to do EMDR on the targeted stuck points. We always end with a calming strategy and setting intentions for the week.
Cost: $250 each session
2 Hour Intensives
If you don’t want to meet weekly then a 2 hour intensive may be a good fit for you. These are great for single session supplemental sessions. If you already see a therapist but are stuck and can’t seem to move forward, an intensive can help release that block so you can get back to doing meaningful work with your main therapist.
These are also great for folks who want to meet 1-2 times a month. Maybe your schedule is chaotic and the idea of fitting weekly therapy into your calendar seems impossible. With these intensives you get to schedule around your free time without sacrificing progress of treatment. With the longer sessions you’re able to reach goals quicker and not need the weekly supports as much.
Cost: $400 each session
4 Hour Intensives
Are you ready to go deep and create quick change without the committment of therapy? This may be the option for you. We are seeing the rise of retreats and intensivs because they work for so many people. Getting the skills and resources you need in one session rather than spacing it out over 1-2 months. It might seem like 4 hours is a lot, but people often say how quickly it goes by. We take scheduled breaks and talk about how to make the most of the session. You are welcome to do multiple of these. Some people do 1 of these 4 hour intensives and reach their goals while others do a few spread out over a few months. You get to choose the right pick for you.
Cost: $800 each session.
EMDR Intensives
Intensives work great for people who want quick change and are ready to dig deep.
This is a great option if you have a weekly therapist and find that most of your sessions are playing catch up rather than diving into the deeper work you were hoping. (yes, you can keep seeing your weekly therapist. In fact, it is encouraged for the deepest healing!)
Instead of spending most of your time filling in the details from each week, you can spend majority of the session tapping into these experiences to find clarity and move forward.
You can feel really productive afterwards! Imagine how good you feel after learning something new in therapy, and multiply this by 4!! You can gain so much insight and feel like you’ve made a lot of progess in your mental health by focusing on yourself one time a month!

FAQs about emdr and Intensives
DO I have to tell you about my trauma?
Yes and no. This is one of the powerful things about EMDR. We go over small aspects verbally but most of the processing is done through the brain so you don’t have to spend hours talking about it.
What if I don’t like it?
Then we explore your options. If you are in regular therapy treatment with me then we discuss other ways to reach your goals. If you signed up for an intensive, you still paid for that time so we explore other methods of treatment and next steps.
What if I can’t handle it?
EMDR starts with building up coping tools and resources. We basically build you a toolbox of helpful skills to use when discomfort arises. Plus, you are always in control so if we need to take breaks, that is encouraged!
Can I get a refund?
All services are charged the morning of and are unable to be refunded.
Does it actually work?
Yes! I was skeptical, too, not gonna lie. The research is growing and more clients are using it and sharing their positive experiences with it.
Does insurance cover this?
I do not bill insurance but I do provide superbills and you can contact them to see if they cover out of network costs. We can also look up your benefits during the free consult. It is always best to directly contact your insurance if you are hoping to be reimbursed.
